Try Indo-Western for Best Friend’s Wedding

Being part of the great Indian wedding scenario is quite a thing and if it is your best friend’s wedding, all eyes will be upon you after the bride! The bride will be the showstopper, but there is absolutely no need for you to be a wallflower. Gear up for the wedding season but in style. Out with the heavy anarkalis and kanjeevarams and in with something trendy and chic. How about selecting an Indo-western wear where you can finely balance tradition and fashion and intelligently avoid the quizzical eyebrows and questioning looks of the elders in the family?

Before you select anything, always remember that it is the bride’s big day, so you should never wear anything which will steal her thunder. It is better to consciously avoid colours and shades she prefers for her wedding. If you are planning to wear lehenga for one of the numerous occasions, you can wear a cropped top with a not-so-heavy pretty long skirt. It not only looks classy, but has the same swirl like a lehenga which makes it ethnic and western at the same time. Top it up with a side braid or a messy bun and wear long earrings.

A summer wedding can be pretty hectic; it is best to avoid dark shades and not go overboard with silver and gold embellishments. It is good to shine in your bestie’s wedding, but too much glitter may be an eye soar. Opt for pastel shades and neon colours for evening functions. The make-up should be muted and if you really want to rock the show opt for a white ensemble. It does not cry out for attention, but will definitely stand out. A long kurti paired with straight pants or palazzos will look absolutely fabulous. And because it is white, you can take your pick from the bright shades of lipsticks.

There are too many functions in an Indian wedding and if it is your best friend’s wedding, it is likely that you will be on your toes. An anarkali can be a good option, but you can make it more adventurous with a symmetrical neckline or a hemline. A bold statement would be to have a plunging backline, but only when you are comfortable in it. You need to select the right accessories, especially your jewellery if you are wearing an anarkali. It should be light, so that you don’t have to carry the extra weight while dancing or running around. Try diamonds and emeralds instead of gold.

For the big day, if you want to stick to traditional with a modern twist, you can select the saree gown. This western fusion in a 9 yard saree has a glamorous touch to it. This also allows freedom of movement which means you can do all the running around and still look beautiful. The off-shoulder trend is gradually picking up and more and more Indian weddings are looking at off-shoulder Indo-western outfits. The beautiful elegant kamarbandh has subtly given way to the western belt and you will find that it is no longer a taboo to wear a heavy western belt with your saree. It is a lovely twist of fashion and is much appreciated!
